LUVOCOM_Markets

Your specialist for the controlled production of thermosetting moulding compounds

Our LUVATOL® magnesium oxide thickening pastes enable our customers’ production processes to be controlled individually and with pinpoint precision. The LUVATOL® business team additionally has a large number of special products for thermosetting compounds, such as TRENNFILM carrier films for SMC and relining applications as well as a wide variety of additives for process control and product finishing. These include a broad range of LUVOGARD flame-retardant additives for reaction resins, PVC plastisols and textile coatings as well as LUVATINE dispersing agents for highly filled resin dispersions and the internal release agents of the LUVOTRENT series for diverse applications.

LUVATOL® is the brand name for our magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide pastes for the controlled, reproducible thickening of unsaturated polyester resins in SMC and BMC production.

Our standard range includes up to 20 different LUVATOL pastes with exactly defined properties. This enables us to meet the common requirements of SMC/BMC applications. Compared with the conventional use of magnesium oxide, our LUVATOL pastes ensure that the thickening process always takes place in a precise and reproducible manner. Where very special requirements have to be met, we also develop customer-specific formulations at short notice.

Our experience in this field has a long tradition. It was back in 1903 that Lehmann&Voss&Co. started up production of magnesium oxide. We have been producing LUVATOL pastes individually tailored to customer needs for more than 20 years. Today we sell a good 30,000 t of MgO per year and are extremely familiar with the special properties of the various types of magnesia from Asia, America and Europe. We are thus able to use the most suitable grade for every application. It is no coincidence that we are the market leaders for magnesia pastes in Europe!

Product development, production, laboratory and pilot plant under one roof ensure that you can always receive the quality you expect from us.

The quality control of our LUVATOL pastes is performed on state-of-the-art rheometers using methods tried and tested over many years. Permanent monitoring of the reactivity of our LUVATOL pastes in terms of reaction rate and final plateau during production, together with precisely defined specification limits, guarantee constant, reproducible thickening properties from batch to batch during SMC manufacture.

Further information:

The TRENNFILM SMC carrier films have been developed in collaboration with leading European manufacturers of SMCs. They consist of various mono-cast polyamide and coextruded PE/PA/PE carrier films for a wide range of customer requirements. TRENNFILM is distinguished by its high tensile strength, good release properties and secure impermeability to styrene. Manufacture on state-of-the-art equipment, the product is supplied in various foil thicknesses and roll widths from 450 to 3000 mm.

LUVOGARD – Products for flame protection

LUVOGARD is the trade name for our flame retardant systems and pastes. LUVOGARD pastes improve the flame-retarding properties of PVC plastisols, resin systems and aqueous coatings. LUVOGARD pastes can be supplied with various active ingredients such as antimony oxide, bromine compounds and halogen-free systems. We are able to manufacture the pastes with different carrier systems and the viscosities are adjusted to allow for pumping.

Properties of LUVOGARD pastes:

  • High concentration of active ingredient
  • High efficacy
  • Easy-to-meter pastes

LUVOGARD FC – Halogen-free flame retardants

These innovative flame retardants are based on a synergistic preparation of  organophosphorus polymers and nitrogenous components. They are a suitable for a large number of applications: pultrusion, SMC/BMC, manual laminating, injection procedures, etc.

LUVOGARD FC products are available as clear, transparent liquids as well as low-density powders. Depending on the field of application, they are suitable for reducing viscosity, component weight or the quantity of aluminium trihydrate (ATH) content. Individually or in combination with ATH, they are able to achieve outstanding fireproofing properties.

LUVOTRENT – Internal release agents

The LUVOTRENT types consist of a series of protected formulations comprising unique polymer compounds and organic esters. They are liquid and are easy to meter. As internal release agents, they act as a low-emission alternative to zinc stearates in powder form amongst their other functions.

The improve the surface quality of the component, enhance flow properties, shorten cycle times, reduce tool wear, improve the dispersion of pigments and fillers, decrease corrosion and have an antistatic effect.

LUVATINE VC – Highly effective dispersing aids

The LUVATINE VC types are cost-efficient, highly effective wetting agents to improve the dispersion of pigments and fillers. If Luvatine VC products are used, it becomes possible to drastically reduce the viscosity of highly filled resin formulations.

PEEL PLY products

PEEL PLY products are used for the roughening of GFRP components. After the components have cured, they can be removed by hand. The result is a textured, clean surface for the subsequent adhesive bonding process.

PEEL PLY is available in different weights per unit area and Versions.

PEEL PLY quality control

Our PEEL PLY products are subject to strict quality control. They are tested regularly for absence of residues, tensile strength, weight per unit area and fibre density.

BLUE 21 – Solvent-free epoxy spray adhesive

During the manufacture of glass-fibre reinforced epoxy resin laminates for the construction of rotor blades for wind energy converters there is often a problem during manufacture when fixing glass inlays in moulds with steep slopes.
Various positioning aids are commonly used in such cases, e.g. spray adhesives with a solvent base, powdered adhesives which are scattered and ironed into place or glass inlays pretreated with adhesive.
All fixing aids have disadvantages to a greater or lesser extent in terms of compatibility, occupational safety and processing effort.

BLUE 21 is a spray adhesive based on a rubber-modified epoxy resin free of curing agents and solvents. This leads to compatibility with the infusion resin and avoids problems with solvent vapours.
